Run Barbados Marathon
Have you ever heard of the Run Barbados Marathon? It takes place every year in the December for 3 days. This year the run will be from December 7th to 9th which starts and finishes on the Bay Street Esplanade. This course begins with runners running from under the Independence Arch and over the Chamberlain Bridge overlooking the historic Parliament Buildings. This exhilarating event is one of many sporting attractions that takes place on the island that encompasses a festive atmosphere that peaks the interests of runners and spectators alike. The theme is “Come For The Run, Stay For The Fun!” which is a great name for what the sporting event portrays.
Competitors are expected from 20 countries around the world including the USA, the UK, Canada, Belgium, Italy, Poland, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Finland, Colombia, Guyana, Bermuda, Trinidad and Barbados. There this is not a sporting event you won't want to miss!
Day 1 is the Fun Mile Run and Pasta Party
Friday Night Fun Mile is a 1 mile race starting from Bay St. Esplanade. This run is split into 5 races.
- Fun Race for Costume Runners, Groups and individuals out to enjoy the festivities.
- Junior Girls Race for 15 & under.
- Junior Boys Race for 15 & under.
- Open Women's Race.
- Open Men's Race.
Care for something to munch on? There is a Pasta buffet to enjoy during or after the Fun Mile race. The Eat Pasta Buffet will have over 8 different types of mouthwatering pasta to choose from starting at 7pm. Make sure to book online when you register for the races.
After this exciting run music DJ Music, Food and Drinks on the Bay St. Esplanade.Run participants, family and friends are encouraged to stick around and enjoy the festive occasion.
Commemorative medals are given to all runners who participated in the race. The prize categories range from most original costume, best dressed couple and best dressed group of 5 or more people
Day 2 5k Walk, 5k Run and 10k
Day 2 is the 5k Walk, 5k Run and 10k. Did you know that the 10K Run Barbados has been around since 1983? Making it is as one of the oldest races in the Caribbean. The 5k along with the 10k race takes the course along the Bay Street which captures the views of the lovely Carlisle Bay and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The race isn't over till there is an after party! Everyone are asked to join the party subsequent the race at the Bay Street Esplanade.
Day 3 is the Half Marathon and Marathon
The Half Marathon and Marathon starts from Esplanade, Bay Street and heads north through Bridgetown and travels along the west coast of the island. Then runners will head to St. James, turn around and head back to the Esplanade which concludes the Half Marathon course. The best part are the sweet songs of the Caribbean to motivate you on the course.
